On Sunday former West Point grad and 5 year Army veteran finished up the Open Championship after making the cut in the first Major he’s ever played. What did he do to celebrate? He got on a flight to Tampa Florida that landed at 5pm last night. “Stopped at Dicks to buy a push cart” and arrived in Valdosta Georgia at 10pm for an Australian Tour Q-school that started today. He shot -1 and is T10. I asked if he was tired and he admitted he was but then said “I love it man, nothing beats it”
Some of the comments on this post are ridiculous The dude has played pro golf for 15 years for a moment like Sunday. Meanwhile his family was back in Florida. He wants to go celebrate the biggest professional moment of his life with the people who supported him before anyone knew his name. It’s not disrespectful to 3M it’s being respectful to his family who are very much a huge part of his success. “He mAdE a CoMmiTmENT”. Yeah, he did, then he won the Open Championship and he’d like to go have a beer or 40 and hang w his wife and kids. And to be clear “he made a commitment” means he clicked a box in an app a few weeks ago, saying he was committed. He did so likely because at the time he was 59th in points and wanted to move up as much as possible. After Sunday that wasn’t necessary. 99% of golf fans didn’t care prior to Sunday he was in the 3M field but now people are mad he’s not? If you want to be mad at anyone, I’d suggest the PGA Tour for sticking the 3M w the week after the open championship. Rant over.

Great story from the Rivers Edge Club Championship in Alpena today. Bob, known to all of us as “Butts” shot 76 yesterday and was 5 back coming into today. Butts is famous for showing up like 5 mins before his tee time. Today was no different. Today he opens the tailgate to his truck….. No clubs. Come to find out his girlfriend’s son had taken them out to load some other stuff in and never put them back. So Butts runs to pro shop, Jerry the pro throws a bunch of clubs together for him from the demo clubs he has. Throws them in a bag. Butts buys some balls. Heads to the tee. And shot 74. Missed the playoff by just 2 shots. Butts is 63 years old.
Seems that Ross Steelman just made a hole in one on the 351 yard par 4 15th at KFT event to get within one. Seems good time to do that. https://t.co/FWpl8OK9av

Im almost convinced this kid might have a future in this game. Almost. https://t.co/L5t4HSYccL

Club championship today and tomorrow Semi-finals of Match Play Wed And the 77th annual Alpena City Open next Sat and Sun. If things don’t go well in any of them, I apologize in advance for openly crying on the podcast for the next month or so.
Army veteran Marcus Plunkett made the cut in his first ever Major at the Open Championship, the next day flew to Florida, landed at 5PM, drove 5 hours to Georgia, picked up his caddie (a pushcart from Dicks’s) and the next morning teed it up at @PGAofAustralia Q-school. He finished 2nd and earned his card. Pretty great stuff.
