Tomorrow there could be one of the most unlikely @ChampionsTour winners ever. Monday Q Jay Jurecic is tied for the lead with Zach Johnson headed into the final round. Jurecic was a school teacher for decades in a tiny little town in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. He didn't play high school golf or college golf and didn't even attempt the game until he was 18. He became good relative quickly but teaching and the fact he lived in UP of Michigan aren't conducive to getting better. Yet somehow he did…and then some. In fact he would spend his summers on the Dakotas Tour playing mini-tour events. And he had a win and numerous good finishes. When he turned 50 in 2021 he resigned from teaching and started chasing the Champions Tour. But he's only qualified for 3 events in five years. Between those events he played wherever he could. The guy is a true grinder. Last season he won the Michigan Tournament of Champions, most the players were 30 years younger than him. He did it by making eagle on the last hole when his 3-wood from 260 hit the flag and be tapped I'm for eagle to tie for the lead. He then won in a playoff. Tomorrow a former teacher from a tiny town in the UP of Michigan, who didn't play high school or college golf, and in just his 4th ever Champions event will tee off tied for the lead. If that doesnt make you love Monday Qs, well I can't help you.

I was just sent a video of someone going hammer on a club pro because they couldn't get caddies (the club has very limited caddies in the fall once kids go back to school). The person was wildly out of line and I would post it but I don't want the person who shot the video to get in trouble. But I feel so bad for club pros. 95% of people are great at clubs, the 5% outweights the 95% and its not close. Give up your summers, your weekends, your holidays and get bitched at by people who will never be happy. Every club pro deserves a raise.

This video was from a few weeks ago when Tyler Jones from Western Carolina U received an exemption into this weeks PGA Tour event was awesome. But Tyler’s journey to this moment is the story. Tyler grew up playing on a tiny 9 hole course his grandparents owned. The kind of course a lot of us grow up on. And he quickly became a top junior in NC, won multiple top junior events in the area, nearly won the SC Open and was third in the NC Match Play am. He was recruited by U of Charlotte a top 25 golf program and went there with a lot of promise. And then golf happened. He couldn’t make the lineup, in fact in his two seasons Tyler told me “I hardly ever came close”. He often finished 8 or 9th in qualifying on a 10 man team. He lost his confidence. He stopped loving the game. And…he got cut from the team, they pulled his scholarship. I spoke with head coach of Tim Eckberg from WCU, who is caddying for Tyler this week at Biltmore. He told me he didn’t recruit Tyler out of High School because “some kids you know you don’t have a chance to get”. But when Tyler was looking for a new place to play the pair connected again. Tyler said it was nice to have the pressure off, Eckberg told him to just have fun. Learned to love the game again. And the play that people saw as a junior was back. Tyler was named conference player of the year last season. Won three times and averaged 70. Yesterday he shot Even and is in striking distance of the cut. Pretty awesome. https://t.co/OGzosfUlTa

He almost certainly should be safe, but I was really surprised to see him at the PGA Tour event. He’s 11th in points and has 1,019 points which should be ok, but def not 100%. He will likely drop at least two spots this week. Still two other events in KFT finals so he should be more than fine assuming he keeps up his good play. But my advice would have been to lock it up 100% then go.
